Department of Theatre
The HPU Department of Theatre is centered around The Servant Artist Program because of our focus on the principle of service as the foundation Christ’s work in our lives as theatre artists. Our students experience an abundance of opportunities to perform, design, write, build, manage, and direct dramatic productions in a wide variety of settings; in the theater, on the film screen, in the church, and anywhere in the world! From their very first semester on campus, our students will be on stage and behind the scenes working on musicals, dramas, comedies, children’s theatre, festivals, films, historical dramas, and all types of theatrical events and styles. From analyzing ancient and modern dramatic literature to operating a table-saw, and from sword combat to scene design, the skills required of a Theatre student are as vast and varied as the world in which we live! HPU Theatre students are challenged not just to learn the skills and disciplines of their craft; they are invited to explore a world that is literally bursting with opportunities for creative people. The Servant Artist Program is for students who have a passion to use their creative talents and abilities to serve others in ways that transform ideas into words, words into actions, and actions into character.
